Additional Information

When arriving at preschooler, your child will hang up his/her backpack and jacket and carry his/her folder upstairs. Students will later take part in activities, which include: sign in, number of the week, weather, calendar, helpers, pattern, number caterpillar, daily message, Jolly Phonics letter, etc.

Large and small group activities will take place throughout the day, focusing on a variety of skills: cooperation, making friends, independence, sharing, counting, letters, cutting (scissors), writing their name, letter sounds, rhyming, etc. Science, social studies, music, dance/movement, and more will also take place to enhance children's growth and development. We will read many books and utilize poems, stories, music and more to introduce new topics and provide opportunities.

During the day, a portion will be devoted to playing: our job as kids. There is so much that we can learn through play and the different interest areas of our classroom. Children will explore at blocks, art, toys and games, library, outside, sensory table, dramatic play, writing, and more. Center choices are specifically made to encourage growth and learning and aid to our areas of study. We are also able to utilize technology through iPads and Smartboard. We not only learn about navigating the technology, but also enrich our academic learning.

Students will take turns bringing snacks throughout the year. A schedule will be provided along with suggestions deemed appropriate and nutritious by DHS. This is a time for language development, conversations, practicing polite manners, and learning about the many foods we eat.

Towards the end of the day we gather to recap the day's events and share what to anticipate the next time we meet.
